St. Peter’s College – Rowing

History
Rowing was first introduced at College in 1959 and in fact St. Peter’s was the 2nd school to gain membership at the prestigious Colombo Rowing Club. Sadly the sport went into oblivion until its revival in 2014.

St. Peter’s College Rowing was revived with 4 students representing College at Schools’ Nationals Championship in 2014 with assistance from school lent by college Sports Secretary Mr. Troy Bartlet. Guided by Mr. Troy and under the Patronage of Rev. Fr. Trevor Martin, rowing officially introduced to College in 2015.

Mr. Harsha De Silva as Master in Charge & Mr. Lasantha Welikala as Coach was part of the inception team until year 2017. By end of year 2019 College had its own equipment consisting of 2 indoor rowing machines and a total of 6 rowing boats.

General Overview
Students are encouraged to enroll for rowing from Grade 6 onwards. School has expanded rowing to kayaking and canoeing from year 2020.
