St. Peter’s College – Chess
History
The Chess Club of St. Peter’s College which was established in 1980 has a successful history. The Chess Club which began with a membership of 30 has now expanded to include 350 members ranging from Grade 3 to Advanced Level.
Chess Classes are on held every Monday at the College premises from 2pm to 4pm.

Performances
2014-
Master Raveen Askey has represented in Sri Lanka in the Under 12 boys category at the Youth Asian Chess Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He has represented Sri Lanka as the official player in the Under 12 Boys Category at the World Youth Chess Championships held in Durban, South Africa.
2016-
Master Raveen Askey, Master Nimesha Shalinda Kiriella, and Master Gimantha Gayasha Kiriella had the honour of representing Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Chess Championships
Master Nimesha Shalinda Kiriella emerges as second runner up in the Under 16 Boys Category at the National Youth Rapid Chess Championships
2017-
Master Gimantha Gayasha Kiriella won a diploma certificate at the World Youth Chess Championships held in Isai, Romania. He was also placed 7th at the World School Blitz Chess Championships held in Isai, Romania.
2018-
Master Raveen Askey has represented in Sri Lanka in the Boys Under 17 Category 14th Asian Schools Championships held in Sri Lanka. He was placed 6th (Rapid Chess) and 5th (Blitz Chess) in the above tournament and won 2 Team Gold Medals for Sri Lanka
Special Remarks-
Master Raveen Askey, Master Nimesha Shalinda Kiriella, Master Gimantha Gayasha Kiriella, Master Ovindu Athukorala, Master Saviru Jayasinghe and Master Aeshya Wellage are National Ranked Players in Sri Lanka.
