St. Peter’s College – Swimming

History
Swimming at St. Peter’s College was first launched on 6th February 1930 with the creation of the St. Peter’s College Aquatic Sports Club. However with little or no success in later years due mainly to the absence of a pool, swimming did not reach praiseworthy standards.  Revival came with the newly constructed Swimming Pool Complex under the patronage of Rev. Fr. Joe Wickramasinghe in the year 1991. A traditional 33 1/3m or 100 Feet pool was built in College for aquatic sports development.

Coaches Ranil Goonasena & Mahi Chandralal were part of the coaching staff from the inception of the pool until the year 2017.

General Overview
The swimming pool was built to cater to students in creating awareness and learning a life skill, and to give an opportunity to neighbouring schools to have an opportunity to learn this skill. OBU members, Parents and other outsiders also use this facility for their learning and fitness purposes during the evening hours.

Swimming at College begins in Grade 2 with the Learn-to-Swim lessons during and After school hours which eventually leads to the competitive squad in the early hours of the day.
