Swimming Pool
The need for a swimming pool had been identified for some time but was only a dream for a long time until the 8th Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Joe Wickremasinghe decided to do something about it. The foundation stone for a pool was officially laid during Fr. Wickremasinghe’s tenure, in 1988, on 29th June, the feast day of the Patron Saint, St. Peter. The site was blessed by a distinguished Old Peterite, Very Rev. Fr. Dalston J Forbes but work had to progress slowly and in trying times due to civil unrest that had erupted in the north and south of the country. Despite the difficulties and obstacles, the never say die attitude of the Fr. Wickremasinghe prevailed and on 18th January 1991, the 64th anniversary of the St. Peter’s, the dream of Peterites became a reality and the pool was blessed and declared open by the Auxiliary Bishop of Colombo, His Lordship Oswald Gomis, with a happy Rector, Fr. Wickremasinghe beside him and amidst a large gathering of distinguished Old Boys, parents and well wishers.
